What is ivermectin, exactly?

Ivermectin belongs to a class of drugs called avermectins. They are often used to treat parasitic diseases such as worms and insect infestations. It is available as a skin lotion with 1% strength under the Soolantra brand.

How does it function?

Ivermectin is recommended as a first-line treatment by dermatologists, the Primary Care Dermatology Society (PCDS), and the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Nobody knows for sure what causes rosacea acne. However, it seems that those who experience it have abnormalities in their immune systems that result in an overproduction of inflammatory mediators, which are cell signaling molecules that control the immune response.

Moreover, the skin of people with rosacea seems to contain a greater number of Demodex mites.  In 35–50% of rosacea patients, there is an increase in demodex mite counts at the locations of facial skin lesions. The mites cause irritation when they penetrate hair follicles and sebaceous glands. They damage the skin’s outermost layers, or epithelium. They also cause the skin to become extremely sensitive. Additionally, those who have rosacea are more susceptible to UV radiation. The end result is the production of pustules and papules.

Acne rosacea is associated with compromised skin barrier function, which leads to increased transepidermal water loss.

Ivermectin diffuses into the pilosebaceous units and kills the Demodex mites.

How well does it function?

Two double-blind, randomised controlled trials that compared the once-daily use of ivermectin 1% cream to a placebo concluded that the former had a beneficial effect. 38.4% and 40.1%, respectively, of each research study reported success as “clear” or “almost clear.” compared to 11.6% and 18.8% of individuals who consumed a placebo.

The cream was used once a day for 52 weeks. In one experiment, for example, the improvement assessed as “clear” or “almost clear” increased from 38.4% at week 12 to 71.1% at week 52.

According to further research, patients who received ivermectin 1% cream reported a greater improvement in quality of life than those who received metronidazole gel.

Negative effects

The most common adverse effect, occurring in fewer than 1% of participants during clinical trials, was searing or stinging of the skin. There may be a mild itching, dryness, or irritation of the skin.

How is cream with 1% ivermectin used?

Pat the skin dry after washing. Apply a pea-sized amount to each of the five primary facial features: the forehead, nose, two cheeks, and chin. Apply the lotion to the skin in thin, uniform layers. Take care to avoid getting any in your mouth, nose, or eyes. Allow the cream to air dry on your face before applying makeup, sunscreen, or further rosacea treatments.  Wash your hands gently after using.

During the first week of treatment, your rosacea may appear more severe. This is because the dead and dying status of the Buy Ziverdo Kit mites first caused an increase in skin sensitivity. However, things should gradually improve after this, so don’t give up. Although 1% ivermectin cream seldom exacerbates rosacea, there is a very small chance that your skin won’t be able to tolerate it in the long run.

The lotion contains alcohol; more precisely, contact dermatitis has been linked to cetyl and stearyl alcohol. Propylene glycol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) are also present, and all of them have the potential to cause localized contact dermatitis.

It is intended for usage by whom?

Pregnancy is not recommended for the use of ivermectin 1% cream because no research has been done on it. Additionally, if you are nursing, it is not encouraged.

Final thoughts

Rosacea is a skin condition that makes its sufferers very miserable and is challenging to treat. It is imperative that 1% ivermectin cream be included to the list of treatments. It has proven to be more effective than metronidazole gel. It is a topical treatment that is well-tolerated and has few side effects.
